Accessible and walk-in showers

Curbless or low-threshold showers, grab bars on proper blocking, a bench and handheld shower for aging in place.

For aging in place, the shower matters most. A curbless or low-threshold entry, a fold-down or built-in bench, a handheld shower on a slide bar and grab bars screwed into solid wood blocking inside the wall.

Curbless showers cost more than a standard walk-in because the floor has to be recessed or built up so the water runs to the drain. We check the joists before promising curbless.

Two federal credits may help. The Home Accessibility Tax Credit covers 15% of up to $20,000 a year in eligible work for a person 65 or over or eligible for the disability tax credit. The Multigenerational Home Renovation Tax Credit applies only when you build a self-contained secondary unit for a senior or adult with a disability. Check your own eligibility with the CRA or your accountant. We provide itemized invoices for your claim.
